My Dream Job

When I was little, I was a huge tom-boy. All I wore were Adidas shirts and Nike track pants and I hated dresses. I played soccer all my life and I loved watching sports with my dad. All I knew were sports. So, I wanted to be a gym teacher cause thats all I thought I was good at.
In highschool, I continued to love sports. But I also began to plan birthday parties and special outtings with my friends. So I became the person to go to when my friends and I wanted to do something. I planned camping trips, grad trips, birthdays, semi-formal get togethers etc. I enjoyed planning things, but I never knew I could do anything more with it. It was just something I was good at. Grade 12 came and in a Catholic school, Prom wasn't associated with our school. So if we wanted to have a Prom, the students had to take control over it and plan it ourselves. Usually in the past years, there would be a bunch of people who took care of this. They would divide themselves up and take care of certain things such as decorations, venues, awards, food, etc. But when it came to deciding who this group was, it was only my bestfriend and I still standing. It was 2 against the entire grade 12 class which consisted of definitly more than 150 people (including dates). We began to plan starting off with where we would have it. Then we moved on to what we'd be serving, what time everything started at, what theme it was going to be, where we could hire security. It started to consume our lives to the point where we would have to take time off school one day to drive to Liuna Station to meet with the event coordinator to talk about what we'd be serving for dinner. I remember one my friend and I went to the mall after school for 8 straight hours looking at decorations and awards. I was so exhausted, but I kept going cause I enjoyed it. By the time prom actually came, her and I were so tired that by the time we went back to the hotel for the after party, we both went straight to bed. But I don't regret anything.
At this point I still thought I'd be a gym teacher. It never occured to me to do this for my career. So I attended Brock University and I took Recreation & Leisure Studies. When first semester was over, I decided I did not want to do this for the rest of my life. So I looked at Brock's catalogue for all the different courses. I came across Communication Studies and read the career opportunities; and it said Event Management. It finally clicked! I could actually do this for my whole life - plan parties.
I grew out of my tomboy stage and began to love fashion and 'girly things'. And my big passion became weddings.
My dream job took some thinking but I definitly know that I'd love to be an event coordinator because I know I'd be good at it.
